Press Release

Unlock with a touch — Doordeck becomes the first keyless solution to use native NFC on iPhone

September 19, 2017

I’m super excited to share a major update from us which we hope will improve the way people access their spaces even further. At Doordeck, our mission has always been to make access control as flexible and seamless as possible, all whilst delivering and innovating faster than our digital & traditional competitors. So today we’re thrilled to have been able to roll out this great new functionality to our users, enabled by Apple’s latest iOS11 release.

London-based security startup Doordeck has today become the first access control product to embrace native NFC technology on iPhone, allowing users to unlock their office with just a tap of their phone.

The platform, which can operate as a standalone security solution or in a unique integration with existing products, has today released the new functionality as part of Apple’s latest iOS11 update. Users of supported Android devices, iPhone 7 and above will now be able to hold their phone to a small RFID tile and open doors just like a regular keycard. The technology is protected by defence-level encryption and offers users advanced features as standard, including time-limited visitor passes and easy key sharing from any device.

Doordeck, which was built to make access control easier and less infrastructure-heavy for office managers and users, is a London based startup championed by Cisco in their IDEALondon Innovation Centre in Moorgate.

With even mid-sized offices in London typically replacing over 5,000 access cards a year (at a usual cost above £12,000 a year), the company aims to reduce the cost, time, and environmental impact of the ageing RFID card technology with their new platform.

All customers of Doordeck will receive the personalised NFC tiles over the coming weeks at no extra cost, which also require no batteries or cabling to install. The company has successful installations in innovation centres and shared workspaces across London and Manchester, and is currently completing its first round of seed funding.
